Male Pattern Baldness
Also called androgenic alopecia, male pattern baldness is the most common type of hair loss in men and affects more than 50% of men over 50 to some extent. We are very often asked what’s the best male pattern baldness treatment, but this is not a simple answer.
What causes male pattern baldness?
Male pattern baldness is most commonly caused by genetics or is hereditary. It has also been related to the male sex hormones called androgens, which help to regulate hair growth. Every hair has a growth cycle and with male pattern baldness, the hair follicle shrinks and produces shorter, finer strands of hair, ending with no new hair growing at all.
In rarer cases, male pattern baldness can be caused by more serious conditions including cancer, thyroid conditions, medications and anabolic steroids. If you notice sudden hair loss after taking new medications, or combined with other health issues, please contact your doctor for advice.

Don't just take our word for it...
Listen to what our clients who suffer from balding, alopecia, hair thinning and scarring have to say about their life changing results from Scalp Micropigmentation with ScalPerfection.
The Process
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) for male pattern baldness involves applying natural pigments into the scalp to replicate the look of real hair follicles. The process typically takes place over several sessions, gradually building density and definition for a realistic result. Each treatment is tailored to your hairline, skin tone, and hair colour, restoring the appearance of a fuller scalp and a natural hairline — all without surgery, scarring, or downtime.
Step 1: Consultation & Hairline Design
Your journey begins with a personal consultation at ScalPerfection. We assess your level of hair loss, discuss your goals, and design a hairline that matches your natural bone structure, age, and style preference. Our goal is to ensure your new look feels completely authentic and enhances your confidence.
Step 2: Pigment Application
Your journey begins with a personal consultation at Scalp Perfection. We assess your level of hair loss, discuss your goals, and design a hairline that matches your natural bone structure, age, and style preference. Our goal is to ensure your new look feels completely authentic and enhances your confidence.
Step 3: Refinement & Aftercare
Your final session focuses on perfecting the overall look — adjusting density, hairline shape, and shading for flawless results. We’ll also guide you through aftercare, ensuring the best possible healing and long-term pigment retention. Once complete, you’ll enjoy a clean, youthful look with no downtime and minimal maintenance.

Ideal candidates
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a highly versatile solution that can benefit men at all stages of male pattern baldness. Whether you’ve just started noticing thinning areas or have experienced significant hair loss, SMP can help you restore a natural, youthful appearance.

Frequently asked questions
Wondering how Scalp Micropigmentation can help with male pattern baldness? Find the answers to the most common questions below and learn everything you need to know before booking your treatment.
How do I know if I’m losing my hair?
Male pattern baldness often begins with a loss of hair at the temples or crown of the head. You may also notice your hairline receding into an ‘M’ shape. For some men, this receding will continue until most or all the hair is gone.
Can I prevent male pattern baldness?
There is currently no known way to prevent male pattern baldness. One theory is that a reduction in stress can help, but this is not guaranteed.
Treatments for male pattern baldness
There is no male pattern baldness cure, but there are a number of treatments to help slow or hide the hair loss. These include:
- Hairstyles
- Wigs and hairpieces
- Weaves
- Minoxidil (Rogaine)
- Finasteride (Propecia, Proscar)
- Hair transplants
Also, if losing your hair is significantly affecting your self-esteem and confidence, it is worth considering counselling to help cope with this change.
Micropigmentation treatment for male pattern baldness
Scalp micropigmentation, or SMP, is an effective male pattern baldness treatment, giving the appearance of a full head of hair that has been shaved or cut close to the scalp.
Micropigmentation is a form of cosmetic hair tattooing that replicates the hair follicles that are ready to grow. SMP can be used to mask thinning hair, as well as male pattern baldness. You can also use SMP to maintain a receding hairline, although be aware that you may need to cut your hair shorter to match the scalp tattoos.
The overall look of scalp pigmentation is completely natural and undetectable to the untrained eye. Just take a look at our gallery to see the results!
