Scalp Micropigmentation for Alopecia

Alopecia Areata is a condition that causes hair to fall out in patches. These patches may be small and unnoticeable at first, but if they connect, this becomes more noticeable. You may also suffer total hair loss. Alopecia can be a sudden onset of hair loss or can develop slowly over time.

Hair loss can occur on other parts of the face, such as eyelashes, eyebrows or beard, as well as other places on the body. Alopecia can affect men, women, and children, and can occur multiple times, with the hair growing back in between.

The Process

At Scalp Perfection, our scalp micropigmentation (SMP) process for alopecia is designed to restore confidence by recreating the natural look of hair follicles and providing even, realistic coverage across areas affected by hair loss without surgery or downtime.

Step 1: Consultation & Mapping

We begin with a detailed consultation to understand the type and extent of alopecia you are experiencing. Our specialists assess your scalp and design a personalised treatment plan, selecting the right pigment tone, density, and coverage pattern to achieve a smooth, natural-looking result that blends perfectly with your skin tone and existing hair.

Step 2: Pigment Application & Layering

Across 2 to 4 sessions, we use specialised micro-needles to deposit pigment into the scalp, replicating the look of natural hair follicles. Whether you have small patches or complete hair loss, each session builds layers of texture and density to create the illusion of fuller hair and restore a balanced, even appearance.

Step 3: Aftercare & Maintenance

Once your treatment is complete, you will receive personalised aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing and lasting results. We will guide you on scalp care, sun protection, and maintenance. Touch-up sessions may be suggested every few years to keep your appearance consistent and natural.

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes alopecia?

Alopecia is an autoimmune condition, where the immune system mistakes healthy cells for foreign ones, believing that it is defending the body against a virus or bacteria. Alopecia causes the immune system to attack the hair follicles, causing them to become smaller and stop producing hair. This results in hair loss.

It’s unknown exactly what causes alopecia, but it often occurs in people with history of other autoimmune conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis or type 1 diabetes.

Can alopecia be treated?

There’s currently no known cure for alopecia, but there are some treatments to try and help slow the hair loss or help hair grow back. This treatment is often trial and error, due to the unpredictability of the condition, and for some people treatment has no effect.

How to hide alopecia with scalp micropigmentation?

We know that alopecia can be very upsetting and affect your confidence and self-esteem. The good news is that scalp micropigmentation can be very effective in disguising the bald patches left by alopecia. It also does not prevent any regrowth that may happen. The simulated hair follicles that are applied, will match your natural hair and effectively conceal any patches.

Micropigmentation is maintenance free, undetectable, long-lasting and will not affect any natural hair regrowth.

Facial Pigmentation for Alopecia

At ScalPerfection we also understand alopecia can affect your facial hair as well as your scalp. This is why we also offer an effective treatment for conditions such as Alopecia Barbae and Alopecia Areata which causes bald spots within your facial hair. This treatment will replicate hair follicles leaving you full of confidence.
