Scalp Micropigmentation for Laser Removal
Scalp Micropigmentation for Laser Removal
The removal of scalp micropigmentation is a very similar process to removing tattoos by laser. Our medical grade lasers can remove, correct, or fade some or all of your existing scalp micropigmentation. Whether your whole scalp needs treatment, or just a few simulated hair follicles, we can remove and correct as much or as little as you need. If your scalp micropigmentation was carried out with a darker colour than required, we can also fade this so that it better suits you.
The laser that we use is a state-of-the-art Inkaway laser. The laser emits short pulses of light that target the pigment and cause the ink molecules to break apart. Your body then processes these particles and naturally passes them through your lymphatic system. Every person is different, but usually the laser can completely remove the scalp micropigmentation without any adverse effects. Because the ink density is usually low and the depth of placement is much less than normal tattoos, laser removal of micropigmentation takes less sessions. We will discuss the number of treatments you may need in your free no obligation consultation.

The Process
At Scalp Perfection, our laser removal treatment is designed to safely and effectively remove or lighten unwanted scalp micropigmentation or tattoo pigment. Whether you are looking to correct an old SMP treatment or prepare your scalp for a fresh new look, our process ensures precision, safety, and comfort.
Step 1: Consultation & Mapping
We begin with a thorough consultation to assess your existing pigment, skin type, and desired outcome. Our specialists evaluate the treated area and design a plan to achieve even, gradual removal while keeping your skin healthy and protected throughout the process.
Step 2: Pigment Application & Layering
Using advanced laser technology, we target the pigment particles beneath the skin, breaking them down safely so they can be naturally removed by your body. The number of sessions required depends on pigment depth, color, and density. Each session is spaced appropriately to allow the scalp to heal and achieve the best possible results.
Step 3: Aftercare & Maintenance
After each session, we provide detailed aftercare instructions to support healing and minimize irritation. You will receive guidance on cleansing, moisturizing, and protecting the scalp from sun exposure. As your skin recovers, the treated area will gradually lighten, leaving a clean and natural appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Could scalp micropigmentation removal damage my existing hair?
Commonly existing hair is not affected by scalp micropigmentation correction. You may find that that your natural hair turns white immediately after the laser treatment, but it will grow back normally. You may ask you to shave before SMP removal, but we can usually work with hair in place.
How many sessions will I need?
SMP removal is usually a straightforward process, and takes 2-3 sessions, each with an 8-10 week gap in between. Of course, there are exceptions to this, and depending on skin tone, pigment depth and the quality of ink used, you may need additional sessions. We will assess your micropigmentation removal and agree a treatment plan during your consultation.
How much does it cost to have scalp micropigmentation removed or corrected?
Prices are calculated on a case-by-case basis and will be agreed during your consultation. The consultation is free, during which we may need to perform a patch test. This will help us to determine the right settings and laser wavelengths to use for removal. There are no hidden costs and there is an option to pay in installments.
Can my scalp micropigmentation be corrected instead of removed?
Scalp micropigmentation is always a better option than removal, but we will discuss the best treatment for you during your consultation. There are a few instances where SMP correction is not possible, including:
• The hairline is too low
This is where the SMP hairline goes below your natural hairline would have been. This can make the forehead look shorter and out of proportion. Unfortunately, there is no acceptable way to disguise this. This type of problem highlights the importance of having a skilled SMP technician who can measure your features and visualise the result correctly.
• The SMP pigment dots have spread
During the SMP process, tiny dots of pigment are injected into the skin to create the
appearance of hair follicles. If these dots are too big, the result does not look realistic.
Pigment dots can also spread due to a few reasons:
o The needle used was too thick.
o The dots were placed too close together.
o The pigment was injected too deep.
Unfortunately, there is no way to hide or correct dots that have spread, so this will require
removal and correction.
• The colour has turned blue/green
Scalp micropigmentation is usually carried out with similar colours – dark grey for dark haired clients and a lighter grey for fair haired clients. Unfortunately, dark grey tones can look cool, especially if the pigment is injected too deep, because there are so many layers of skin above. The SMP dots can also turn blue/green if the pigment was not formulated properly or warmed up before use.
The pigments used for scalp micropigmentation are very concentrated and contain higher levels of carbon than standard tattoo ink. As your body breaks this down over time, carbon-based pigments can appear blue/green/grey. Experienced SMP artists avoid this by using a little red pigment to counteract the effect.
Once colour has been applied to the scalp, there is no easy way to correct it. The best option is to remove it and reapply the micropigmentation.
Is the scalp micropigmentation removal process painful?
We’ll be honest, laser removal of SMP is not the most comfortable procedure. Most of our clients say that it feels like a sharp stinging, but an average session only last 10 minutes, so any discomfort doesn’t last long.
Is it safe to remove SMP?
If your SMP removal is carried out by a full trained and experienced technician, then yes. Please note that darker skin has a higher risk of hypo- or hyperpigmentation (lightening or darkening of the skin), so a specialist laser is required for darker skin types. If you have any concerns, please speak to us.
